Discount retailer Dollar General has rebranded, and the construction of a Dollar General Market is underway at 1023 S Forest Avenue in Luverne. The store opening is slated for early spring 2022, but according to Dollar General Corporation Public Relations (DGPR), construction progress may alter this date.

In an official press release, Dollar General said that they believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic growth for the communities they proudly serve.

“Our customers and communities are at the center of all that we do, and meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority when choosing store locations. In selecting store sites, we take a number of factors into consideration, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customers’ price, value and selection needs. We further strive to provide convenience for customers who may not have affordable nearby retail options,”

“Dollar General gives its customers more than everyday low prices on merchandise as part of its mission of Serving Others.  Dollar General is deeply involved in the communities it serves and is an ardent supporter of literacy and education through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, which awards grants each year to nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer, and youth literacy programs. Since its inception in 1993, the DGLF has awarded more than 3 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 14. The store will offer fresh food options including produce and meats. The selection of perishable cooler products will be expanded and the additional space in the new store will allow for a wider variety of all items available.

The new store will create 6 new jobs at a minimum according to the store’s manager Lizzy Nobles.

“Currently all assistant manager positions are taken, but there will be at least two new key carrier positions that will need to be filled and approximately six new sales associates positions available. We are taking applications online now,” Nobles said.

Nobles has not yet received the layout for the new store, or the details of the expanded products offered but said they will no longer have hanging apparel. All hanging apparel and shoes are now 70% off at the current store location until the end of the month.

There will be at least four self-checkout kiosks and at least two regular registers running. Hours are expected to be the same but have not been finalized.
