Mrs. Mary Armstrong Owens, 77, a resident of Rutledge, Alabama, passed away at Luverne Health & Rehabilitation on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Funeral services for Mrs. Owens were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 1, at Liberty Congregation with Rev. Jimmy Williams officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mrs. Owens dedicated her life to providing a loving and supportive home for her entire family. She so often found her greatest pleasures in the simple things in life such as listening to her wind chimes or spending an afternoon in quiet company with her beloved husband, just to watch their cats playing in the yard as the traffic rolled by. Mrs. Owens was also an avid reader, and kept her mind active with card games like solitaire. She loved to spend Saturdays in the Fall cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide to victory. She was also a faithful member of Liberty Congregation where she worshiped her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with her beloved church family. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed nothing more than the time she was able to spend with her family. To her husband, Charles, she will always be his “perfect sweetheart,” as they modeled how to make a marriage both last and thrive throughout the years. She was truly the heart and soul of her family, and words cannot properly express how sorely she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeremy Gibson; great-grandchildren, Jordan & Ryan Douglas; parents, James Hillard & Gladys Register Armstrong; and brother, Ennis Armstrong. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles Owens; their children, Janet (Danny) Rhodes, Gail (John) Defee, and Sandy (Stanley) Smith; grandchildren, Kayla Raupach, Jessica Gibson, Tiffany (Chance) Mangram, Justin (Rebekah) Gibson, Candace (Sam) Waters, and Cheyenne (Stephen) Croley; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Haley, Bradley, Tristan, Sage, Christian, Brynlee, Jaelynn, Cameron, Alice, Kylan, Cameron, Bryant, “Lil” Jeremy, Kyleigh, and Brian; and brother, Ferrell Armstrong.
