On May 24, the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a break-in and damage to a residence on Cameron Chapel Road. When officers arrived, they found damage to the barn and home.
The vandalism included broken windows, destruction of a rocking chair, garden tools, and pool table. The perpetrator opened a bag of potting soil and slung the contents around the inside of the barn. A grey shirt was left on the porch was gathered as evidence.
A call came in through the 911 system on Wednesday, May 25, regarding a burglary at Spring Hill Community Church around 1 p.m.
Investigator Chris Stewart said a church member entered the church to turn on the cooling system for upcoming church service and discovered a man inside the church. He then called 911. The man was identified as Nathan Palmer.
“Nathan had stayed with the church member until law enforcement arrived,” Stewart said. “We arrested him and transported him to the county jail. During an interview, he confessed to the damage at both locations.”
Palmer, who has a history of drug use, was missing for several days according to Facebook posts. He was spotted walking down Mt. Ida Road on the week of May 22. Facebook posts on Springhill Neighborhood Watch page documented Palmer walking down the road in a grey t-shirt.
Palmer has a history of taking off for several days at a time.
