Several band members from Brantley High School took part in a unique opportunity Sept. 10 when they put their talents on display alongside the Auburn University Honor Band.
Two seniors, Josie Knighten and Alex Johnson, joined junior Jhalan Wiley in representing their school, performing in front of over 80,000 fans in the confines of Jordan-Hare Stadium as the Auburn Tigers played San Jose State University.
Whether or not their fan allegiances lie with the Auburn Tigers, they surely understood the honor and significance of being chosen to play with band members at the collegiate level.
In a high-pressure situation, these musicians shined and made their peers, teachers, family, and community proud.
We hope each participant took full advantage of this opportunity. Being able to learn from more experienced performers and receive feedback from college-level instructors surely will help these students as they continue their musical endeavors.
Getting a chance to experience the atmosphere of a Southeastern Conference football game serves as the icing on the cake for the trio, whose work invested prior to being picked for this experience clearly paid dividends.
Congratulations to these performers for a job well done, and may their talents take them further than they could ever imagine.
