Highland Home’s postseason journey ends in 44-15 loss to B.B. Comer

Highland Home’s run through the football postseason fell one game short of a title bid in a 44-15 loss to B.B. Comer in a Class 2A semifinal at Legion Stadium in Sylacauga on Friday.
The Flying Squadron struggled to contain the Tigers’ offensive attack in the first half and fell behind 36-0 before the intermission. Highland Home’s defense allowed 282 rushing yards.
B.B. Comer junior running back Kamore Harris scored two of his three touchdowns in the opening quarter – the first on a 64-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Devin Harvey and the second on a 8-yard run.
Harris finished the contest with 25 carries for 172 yards and two rushing touchdowns as well as the lone pass reception for a score.
Flying Squadron senior Keldric Faulk scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second half on runs of 1 and 28 yards, respectively. Faulk’s first score came early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 36-7.
Harris’ second rushing touchdown from 5 yards out extended B.B. Comer’s lead to 44-7 with 2:56 to play in the third quarter.
Highland Home’s offense mustered 18 yards, forcing the Flying Squadron to try to beat B.B. Comer through the air.
Flying Squadron quarterback Brice McKenzie went 14-of-29 for 158 yards, while Faulk led the team in rushing with 29 yards.
The Flying Squadron finished the 2022 campaign with a 12-2 record.
B.B. Comer (12-2) will face perennial powerhouse Fyffe (14-0) in the 2A state championship game on Friday at 3 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium
