The Luverne Public Library will soon wrap up their Book Walk Pop-Up Challenge. As part of the Move Alabama Challenge that runs through the end of April, the library has organized a fun outdoor experience in their butterfly garden that encourages children to read, explore, and be active.
This self-guided experience is perfect for young explorers. Starting at the entrance of the property, kids can pick up a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and an accompanying activity sheet. A special chalk walk has been set up around the property to provide an easy-to-follow path for reading the book and completing the activity sheet.
Along the way, kids will be encouraged to point out various landmarks and animals that appear in the book and through directions written in chalk on the path, will be instructed to complete various physical activities. After reading the book, kids will go inside the library to receive a special prize for completing the Book Walk Challenge.
Locals participating in the challenge have until April 30 to complete 20 of the 25 fun activities necessary to be entered into the prize drawings that will be done by the Crenshaw County Extension office. Challenge flyers, available at the extension office, must be returned to extension by May 3.
The Book Walk Pop-Up Challenge and Move Alabama is a collaboration between Alabama Extension at Auburn University’s Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-ED) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP).
