The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) released new information about a child killed late Tuesday in Dozier.
Upon further investigation of a fatal crash which claimed the child’s life, the driver of the 2014 Ford Escape which struck the Dozier toddler has been identified as Frederick L. White, 54, of Dozier.
At approximately 4:05 p.m. on May 2, a single vehicle crash claimed the life of a one-year-old child in the Searight community, near Dozier. According to Senior Trooper Kendra McKinney with ALEA, the toddler received critical injuries from being struck by a 2014 Ford Escape driven by a person first identified as Pamela Denise White, 53, of Dozier but later identified as Frederick White.
“The one-year-old was transported to a local area hospital where the youth later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased,” McKinney said.
The crash occurred on Hawkins Road, approximately two miles south of Dozier in Crenshaw County near the Covington County line.
Crenshaw County Sheriff Terry Mears said the cause of the accident is not yet known.
“The Gant Police Department was the first ones there,” Mears said. “Justin Wood [with the Sheriff’s Department] responded. He was the second one there.
McKinney said no further information is available as Troopers with the ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
“Our thoughts and prayers are obviously with the family,” Mears said. “What can you say? You have to be aware of your surroundings at all times. We still don’t know what happened. Our thoughts and prayers are always with the family in a tragic accident like this. We’ll do anything we can to help comfort the family.”
