The Luverne Public Library will begin its annual Summer Reading program next week, highlighting the theme, “All Together Now”.
The children ages 3 – 8 years old will meet on Tuesdays from June 6-27, at 10 a.m., and the 9-12 year old children will meet on Thursdays from June 8-29 at 10 a.m.
The younger group will focus on friendship, bullying and kindness. They will enjoy crafts and cookie crafts that follow those themes.
During the same time, Mrs. Leslie will still conduct the weekly “Mommie and Me Story Time” for the children who may prefer to continue to attend. She will read, lead songs, and also do a simple craft with that group.
The older group will focus on different cultures by doing an art project and a cooking project from China, Mexico and Korea.
During the last week of June, each group will enjoy a party. The parties will have food, fun games and a piñata.
Certificates and prizes will be given to each participant at the party. The younger kids will be especially thrilled to have a game wheel from McDonald’s provided by Eddie Byrd.
During June and July, the Library will also hold four special events for all ages.
On June 12, representatives with the Alabama Department of Archives and History will present “A Community called Alabama”. They will read the book “The Circles All Around Us” teaching children that there are circles all around them made up of all the people in their lives. They will hold a “Dress-Up” activity where volunteers will dress up as various community figures in Alabama history. They will also provide a craft for the children to do that represents their own community.
On June 19, magician Brian Reaves will be at the Library at 10 a.m. to entertain everyone.
This is a brand new magic program and library staff are excited to have him come to entertain patrons this year.
Animal Tales will be back again to bring lots of critters for the children to see on Monday, June 26t at 10 a.m.
On July 10 when the McWane Science Center staff will be at the library at 10 a.m. to provide a fun, educational science program that is always popular.
In July, the programs continue on Tuesday, July 11-25 at 10 a.m. for the younger children and on Thursdays, July 6-20 at 10 a.m. for the 9-12 year old group. The younger group will do fun art projects, and the older group will do STEM projects with Heather Sanders, the 4-lH agent.
These programs are a great opportunity for families to bring their children to participate in fun, free, educational activities, and we invite everyone to attend.
