Members of the Brantley community reeled on Sunday, with the news that one of their own, 40-year-old LaKenya B. “Peaches” Anderson, died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash. On Monday, Lucas M. Johnson, 20, of Brantley was arrested in connection with her death.
Sergeant Jeremy Burkett with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said Johnson was arrested and charged at approximately 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Johnson was booked into the Crenshaw County Jail and is currently awaiting a hearing to establish a bond,” Burkett said. “The charges and arrest stemmed from a two-vehicle crash which occurred at approximately 8:05 a.m. Sunday, June 18.”
Anderson was fatally injured when the 2018 Nissan Rogue she was driving collided head-on with the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Johnson.
“Anderson was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Burkett. “A 12-year-old juvenile, who was a passenger in the Nissan Rogue, was also injured and transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment. The crash occurred on Crenshaw County 57, approximately seven miles north of Brantley, in Crenshaw County.”
Community reports confirm the juvenile, Anderson’s son, was transported to UAB Hospital.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
