Around 2 a.m. Saturday, rescuers recovered a Dozier man’s body in Covington County.
Woodrow R. Smith, 79, was found already deceased and recovered from the Conecuh River near Gantt Lake after a marine-related event claimed his life.
“Smith was believed to be fishing overnight and was found approximately 30 yards downstream from his vessel without a personal flotation device (PFD) on,” said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sergeant Jeremy Burkett in a Saturday afternoon media release.
Details of Smith’s death remain unknown at this time.
Nothing further is available as ALEA Marine Patrol Division Troopers continue to investigate.
