Understanding My God

A song we sometimes sing with our children in Bible classes says, “My God is so big, so strong and so mighty; there’s nothing my God cannot do.” To truly understand this world, and our very existence, we have to begin with God.
A wise man wrote, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…” (Proverbs 1:7). Again he wrote, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).
The true explanation of this universe is found in God. “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” (Hebrews 11:3).
The evidence upon which faith is based is two-fold. Faith comes from hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). It is also based on God’s revelation of Himself in nature. The Apostle Paul wrote, “because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead…” (Romans 1:19-20).
Yet, for all of that power and might, the all-powerful Creator of the universe cares for me. Peter put it this way, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7).
As the song “Awesome God” by Richard W. Mullins says, “Our God is an awesome God/He reigns from heaven above/With wisdom, power, and love/Our God is an awesome God!”
We can get to know God more fully as we meet Him at the cross of His Dear Son!
