Sheriff releases victim’s identity, seeks information in untimely death

The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office requests the public’s assistance with an investigation into the untimely death of a man on Andalusia Highway. Sheriff Terry Mears released the victim’s identity Monday.
At around 10:35 p.m. Sept. 14, deputies received a report of a male subject identified as Joseph Cody Wayne Williams, 25, in the 19,000 block of Andalusia Highway. Deputies responded to find an individual at the scene, suffering major injuries which would prove to be fatal.
“Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, the victim tragically succumbed to his injuries at Andalusia Hospital,” said Sheriff Terry Mears.
Mears said officers are still seeking answers to questions on how the injuries occurred.
“Joseph Cody Wayne Williamson sustained fatal injuries during the incident, and it is crucial to uncover any relevant details to ensure a comprehensive investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) to investigate the incident and is asking the public to come forward with any information related to the case.
“We believe that every little detail can make a significant impact on our investigation,” Mears said.
Anyone with possible leads or information that could assist in identifying the circumstances surrounding the incident should contact the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office or ALEA as soon as possible.
“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could potentially be critical in helping us bring closure [in] this case to the victim’s family,” Mears said.
According to Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Stewart, no further information is available at this time.
