On Oct. 30 emergency response entities from across Crenshaw County will meet to host an inaugural trunk or treat event for Halloween partakers in the community.

According to Angel Hebert, General Administrator of the Crenshaw County Detention Facility, the event was sparked by a desire she has to draw a closer connection and bond between the community and the first responders who serve them daily.

“A lot of people are scared of first responders,” Hebert said. “We wanted to include as many local agencies as possible so the community can have a chance to come out and get to know us and feel more comfortable around us.”

Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Thomas Strickland said he has high hopes for the event’s success and hopes to give the community a night of family fun they can look forward to for years to come.

“We don’t do door-to-door trick or treating anymore so this gives a little something extra for kids and families to come out and enjoy,” Strickland said. “They’ll also get to meet and interact with some of their local first responders. We invited the Luverne Police Department, Brantley Police Department, all of the local fire departments, Luverne and Brantley rescue squads, and even the 911 and EMA agencies to come out.”

During the event, local emergency response agencies will host booths where attendees can move from vehicle to vehicle to enjoy tricks and treats while becoming familiar with the faces of those who bravely serve Crenshaw County day in and day out.

The event will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 30 in Turner’s Park in Luverne and Halloween enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged and welcomed to don their costumes for a night of family friendly fun.
