Linda Jean Edwards Wooten, 59, a resident of Highland Home, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 8, while surrounded by her family. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at New Ebenezer Baptist Church with Brother Clay Crum officiating.

There was no better wife, mother, sister, aunt, or friend than Linda Wooten. She devoted her entire life to her family and those whom she considered family. Her heart was always so open and large enough to encompass nearly everyone she met. While she was not blessed with her own child until much later in life, she had been a “mama” to countless others, including her siblings, throughout most of her life. Watching her, it was easy to see why so many looked up to her.

Not only was Linda kind and generous with everyone, but she was also the kind of woman who made sure things got done and done properly to boot! Never doubt for one second that she was the boss in the family, determined to keep everyone on the straight and narrow path to paradise. She was steel wrapped in velvet personified, and all who knew her loved her for it. Her family was her entire world…except on Saturdays in the fall when she was going to be passionately cheering on her beloved Crimson Tide on the gridiron. Though she has left them far too soon, she leaves behind a legacy of love and a lifetime of memories for her family and friends to cherish for the rest of their own lives.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Barbara J. & David M. Barnwell, and brother, Wendell L. Edwards. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Thomas K. Wooten; their son, Thomas R. Wooten; father, Carl M. Edwards; siblings, Kenneth O. Edwards and K. Leane Edwards; brother-in-law, Ronald C. (Cindy) Wooten; sister-in-law, Ruth Cooper; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
