F&S Tires and Towing is revving up for the fifth annual Ronald Mount Chrome and Steel show, set to take place on Mar. 2 at their location on 400 West Commerce Street in Greenville. The event, beginning at 10 a.m., is a celebration of classic cars and bikes, featuring live entertainment, delicious barbecue plates and a variety of vendors.
Buck Mount, owner of F&S Tires and Towing, anticipates a great turnout for the show.
” We’ve had all kinds of cars. You name it and we’ve had it,” Mount said. “It’s gotten bigger every year. Last year, the weather messed us up and it rained all day. The year before that though, we had probably 200 cars show up and I would guess three or four hundred people.”
Attendees can expect live music from the rock band Mojo Hand, while indulging in mouthwatering barbecue and browsing through the various vendor offerings. The event will also feature trophies for winners in multiple categories, adding a competitive edge to the festivities.
Additionally, F&S Tires will be giving away a set of new tires and raffling off several other items.
While there is an entry fee of $20 per car, admission is free for the public to enjoy the show. This year, all proceeds from the show will be donated to support Sommer Watson, a teacher at Crenshaw Christian Academy (CCA) who is battling breast cancer.
Watson, who was diagnosed in August and underwent surgery in December, expressed gratitude for the fundraiser in her honor, though she felt overwhelmed by the gesture.
“Amber Mount called me and asked if it would be ok,” Watson said. “I was honored but I felt almost undeserving. I look at other people with cancer that have it so much worse than me and you think, ‘why me?'”
Watson highlighted the significance of the event, especially in light of its origins.
“It’s a wonderful thing Buck does to honor his dad,” Watson said. “His father died from cancer, so he does this every year and donates the money to someone dealing with cancer.”
As the community comes together to support Watson and others fighting cancer, she remains hopeful and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support.
“I have just been overwhelmed by people’s support and generosity,” Watson said. “It really makes you realize how many people are so generous, how many people do care. It’s heartwarming how many people care, and it’s been really eye opening.”
