Published 3:57 pm Tuesday, April 2, 2024
Hazel Baty Morrow, 78, a resident of Luverne, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, while surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Hazel will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 at Faith Walk Ministries with Pastor Leon Hall, Rev. Greg Melvin and Pastor Louis Johnson officiating and Robby Morrow offering the eulogy. She will then be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. and she will lie in state at the church on Thursday for 30 minutes prior to the service.
Hazel spent over 20 years as a daycare provider where she took excellent and loving care of well over 350 children. That’s also where she earned her affectionate nickname, Nanny Hazel, that stayed with her for the rest of her life. It was such a perfect occupation for her as Hazel was a born nurturer. There was nothing she loved more than taking care of her family and everyone else who needed love and attention in order to thrive in this hard, cruel world. Her outgoing, generous, and talkative personality absolutely made her who she was and so special to everyone who knew her. Hazel was a true Christian as someone who did so much for so many people without ever wanting credit for any of it. She was also the last surviving charter member of her beloved church, Faith Walk Ministries.
At home, she was an immaculate housekeeper who took such great pride in her home and yard. This self-proclaimed “Yard Sale Queen” could also often be found enjoying her favorite southern gospel music, when she wasn’t hunting for unique treasures or hosting sales of her own. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who never failed to do everything in her power to take care of her greatest treasure on earth, her family. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her, but they will find comfort in the knowledge that she is now healthy and whole in her joyous reunion with Arnie in the arms of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Hazel was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 62 years, Arnie B. Morrow; parents, Jerry Baty and Thelma Burks; and sister, Shirley Dorsett. She is survived by her children, Debbie L. Warren, Robby (Christy) Morrow, and Tammy (James) Dobbs; grandchildren, Ashley Edwards, Dusty Morrow (Brianna Baker), Matthew Morrow (Alex Folkes), and Marlee Morrow; brothers, Wayne (Linda) Burks and Hoyt Burks; sister-in-love, Barbara Morrow and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Zach Hudgens, Jacob Holloway, Ryan Kelly, Jackson Holloway, Matthew Morrow, and Matthew Youngblood. Dusty Morrow will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
