On June 24, John Ferguson, regional director for Senator Tommy Tuberville, met with Crenshaw County stakeholders. Ferguson was at the Chicken Shack from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., where he was available for questions and to discuss constituents’ concerns at the federal level.
“We do these periodically; we bring all the Senate office resources to areas that are either underserved with a congressional office or it’s not within close proximity,” Ferguson said. “We can assist with any federal agency our constituents need help with.”
The senator’s office and regional directors organize the satellite office hours quarterly, setting up in counties away from their main offices in Dothan and Montgomery.
Visiting during the satellite office hours was Dawn Rayborn, administrator with the Crenshaw County Commission, who took the occasion to discuss a range of issues affecting the community. Rayborn, a lifelong resident of Crenshaw County, expressed her appreciation for the outreach efforts, emphasizing the importance of representation for smaller, more rural counties.
“They need to represent all counties, and Crenshaw County is a wonderful county. I’ve lived here all my life,” Rayborn said. “It’s nice for them to come and represent even small countries like us.”
During the office hours, Ferguson provided resources and aid to attendees with federal issues. The services include help with passports, passport expedition, veterans affairs (VA) and social security claims, work visas and matters regarding the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Additionally, Ferguson shared information about joining a United States service academy, and how to apply for nominations from Senator Tommy Tuberville.
“We try to get out and promote what we’re capable of doing on the constituents behalf,” Ferguson said. “People probably won’t drive to Dothan or Montgomery, just for help with a congressional office.” After the session in Luverne, other regional directors can be found throughout the week in Marshall, Chilton, Calhoun and Mobile county.
