Jerry Williamson of Highland Home has been selected as the winner of The Luverne Journals 2024 “My Dad, My Hero” sweepstakes. Nominated by his daughter, Carmen Powell of Brantley, Williamson was chosen at random from a list of fathers nominated because they made a lasting impact in the lives of their families.

According to Powell, her father embodies honor and valor, making him a deserving recipient of this recognition.

“My daddy is literally a hero,” Powell said. “Fighting for our country in both the Vietnam and Desert Storm wars, he is the epitome of honor and valor. For me, my daddy has always been an example of what a good person does and how they live their lives and treat others.”

Williamson is renowned for his big heart and kind soul, never allowing those around him to go without. He is always uplifting others and offering a kind word to everyone he meets. Powell said that her father never leaves his house without a smile on his face, emphasizing his embodiment of kindness and Christ-like love for his fellow man.

“He loves his children and grandchildren fiercely,” Powell added. “He is not boastful or proud and deserves to be shown how much his example and his kindness to all those that have crossed his path has meant and continues to mean.”

The Luverne Journal congratulates Jerry Williamson on this well-deserved recognition and we thank all participants for their heartfelt nominations.
