A new coffee shop will soon be coming to downtown Luverne, bringing in new business and big plans.
Maggie’s Coffee House, owned and soon-to-be operated by Maegan Marshall, is a new coffee shop currently under construction.
“I’ve always wanted a coffee shop, it’s just been a dream of mine my whole life,” Marshall said. “It’s been in the works for about five years. It’s been a dream of mine since I was in college back in the early 2000s. We knew exactly what building we wanted and we just took our time and kind of waited till it was right.”
Marshall purchased the building, and began renovations last year, after the building was put up for sale.
For Marshall and her family, this makes the fourth building they’ve renovated. Previously, they renovated buildings in downtown Luverne like The Carriage House and space occupied by AMP Nutrition.
“I moved back from Florida to here, and downtown there is just [almost] nothing here,” Marshall said. “We just had this dream to revitalize the downtown and just make it great again, to make it somewhere where people wanted to stop and shop.”
“We’re thrilled to see new business coming to Luverne and to Crenshaw County as a whole,” said Kathy Smyth, president of Crenshaw County’s chamber of commerce. “We hope to support this new business as a community.”
Marshall said she hopes to have Maggie’s Coffee House up and in operation by the start of the 2024-2025 school year, giving students an area to hang out and visit during non-school hours.
Upon opening, Maggie’s Coffee House will have a limited menu with coffees, breakfast pastries and lunch items. However, Marshall plans to expand this menu and the activities within the shop as they remain open.
“My plan is, on weekends, we’ll have live bands come in for the kids. We’ll have trivia nights and theme nights,” Marshall said. “I want to give these kids a place where their parents knew it was To learn more about Maggie’s Coffee House, follow the shop on social media.
