Over 50 first responders from Crenshaw County were honored during a cookout at E.L. Turner Park July 12. The event, held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., was hosted by Senator Will Barfoot, Representative Chris Sells and the Alabama Forestry Association.

Caroleene Dobson, candidate for the recently redrawn 2nd Congressional District seat, also attended to show her support and thank the men and women who serve Crenshaw County.

Addressing first responders, Barfoot expressed deep appreciation for their sacrifices.

“The respect I have for all first responders is unmeasurable,” Barfoot said. “They put everyone’s lives before their own to make sure we are safe and healthy in our communities. I am beyond grateful for what they do for us. This cookout is a small way to show our appreciation for them and hopefully gives them some encouragement.”

Sells also voiced his feelings of thankfulness for the first responders.

“I am thankful today and every day, for our first responders,” Sells said. “This event is to say ‘thank you’ for all they do for us and our area. They are the hardest workers, even when times get tough. Now more than ever we need to stand with our first responders and show our support. I am eternally grateful for all they do to keep us safe.”

Dobson also praised the first responders, stating that Crenshaw County’s first responders are among the bravest, most dedicated and hardworking public servants in the country.

“It was an honor to support the men and women who put everything on the line to serve and protect Alabama families,” said Dobson. “While Washington Democrats and D.C. insiders continue to put public safety on the back burner and our communities at risk, our first responders are left to provide Alabamians with the sense of security they deserve. I will always stand by our first responders and work to provide them with the resources they need to keep our communities safe.”

Elliot Jones, Director of the Crenshaw County Emergency Management Agency, echoed the sentiments.

“We appreciate the hard work and sacrifice our first responders and their families make every day serving the people of Crenshaw County,” Jones said. “The mere existence of our county really could not be without them, and it is great that our first responders are getting some recognition from outside the area and from our elected officials.”

Crenshaw County Sheriff Terry Mears shared his gratitude.

“I want to thank the Forestry Commission for sponsoring this,” Mears said. “It was a great opportunity for the first responders to meet Senator Barfoot, Representative Sells and hopeful congresswoman Caroleene Dobson. It was easy to see that the first responders were very appreciative and proud to be at this patriotic event. We are so blessed to live in this county and in the great state of Alabama. God bless America!”

Crenshaw County Commissioner for District One, Raymond McGough, said the event was a great way to recognize state representatives and essential first responders.

“The casual outdoor atmosphere gave us the opportunity to discuss achievements and opportunities with Alabama Forestry representatives,” McGough said. “Great relationships make it easier to accomplish our goals in Crenshaw County.”

Crenshaw County District 4 Commissioner Stallion Sasser highlighted the importance of such events.

“Senator Sells and Representative Barfoot do so much for Crenshaw County, supporting us in so many ways,” Sasser said. “I am glad they came out to highlight our county’s first responders. Thanks to the Alabama Forestry Association for sponsoring the event. Our first responders work tirelessly to serve and protect Crenshaw County families and they are appreciated immensely.”
