A Crenshaw County school bus carrying 26 students was involved in a two-vehicle accident early this morning on Dry Lake Road, officials confirmed. Parents of the students were quickly notified, and all students were assessed for injuries at the scene. Fortunately, none required transfer to a medical facility.
“Unfortunately, a Crenshaw County school bus was involved in an accident this morning on Dry Lake Road,” said Dodd Hawthorne, Superintendent of Crenshaw County Schools. “Thankfully, there were no serious injuries, only minor bumps and bruises. We are very grateful to the Luverne Rescue Squad and law enforcement for their swift response.”
The bus, which was transporting Luverne School students, collided with another vehicle just before 7:25 a.m., according to Senior Trooper Kendra R. McKinney of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
“The crash occurred at approximately 7:23 a.m. on Dry Lake Road,” McKinney said. “Further details are not yet available as Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue their investigation.”
Information about the other driver and the circumstances leading to the crash remains unclear. The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be provided as they become available.
