Car show Saturday to support mission team

Chapel Hill Baptist Church will host a “Car, Truck and Bike Show” this Saturday, Sept. 21, at Turner Park from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chapel Hill Baptist Missions Team as they prepare for a 2025 mission trip to Oaxaca, Mexico.
Pastor Neal Kelley highlighted the significance of the trip, emphasizing the opportunity missions activities offer for spiritual and personal growth for both the adult and youth participants.
“This trip is a chance for all of our mission team to allow their gifts to be utilized to help people who face challenges that we don’t normally have,” said Kelley. “And for our youth it is a great opportunity to really get an understanding of their strengths and how they can use them to expand the kingdom of God.”
The mission team, consisting of 24 adults and youth, will collaborate with the Roca Blanca Mission Base (RBMB) in Oaxaca, home to the largest concentration of unreached people in the Western Hemisphere. The base reaches these communities through medical outreach, food and clothing distribution, community development projects and church planting.
Among the youth attending the mission trip are 16-year-old Trilby Jones and 12-year-old Temply Jones of Brantley, daughters of David and TeLenna (Sasser) Jones. The sisters shared their excitement for the upcoming journey.
“I feel like the trip will be eye-opening because we are so blessed here,” said Trilby, an eleventh grader at Crenshaw Christian Academy (CCA). “I think it will be so much fun getting to share this experience with my family and church family, spreading the word of God.”
Temply, a seventh grader at CCA, added, “I think there will be people willing to hear and accept the word of God. I also can’t wait to have this experience with my family, and I hope to go on many more mission trips.”
A core aspect of RBMB’s mission is the discipleship and training of students. The organization has established over 70 churches in rural, mountainous regions of Oaxaca, all led by graduates of its Bible Schools.
Each year, over 200 students are discipled and trained to be effective witnesses for Christ, with new disciples being made and new churches being planted regularly.
Chapel Hill Baptist’s mission team will connect with one of the existing Oaxaca churches to assist with various projects in an effort to help meet a wide array of needs in the area. These tasks will include helping with the construction of a school building, leading a vacation Bible school-style series for local children and more. They will be involved in a food and clothing outreach and offer prayer and support to those seeking medical care from a mobile medical team consisting of doctors and nurses.
This mission trip marks the church’s second international outreach, following their 2019 mission to Uganda. Pastor Kelley encouraged the entire community to get involved, noting that supporting missions extends beyond those who are traveling.
“Everyone can play a role in this mission trip,” said Kelley. “Whether it is praying or donating or offering support in any other way. Efforts like this trip, along with the support of ongoing missions like Lottie Moon Offering and Annie Armstrong Offering, truly make a difference.”
Fundraisers like the car show are an integral part of making the mission trips a reality. The “Car, Truck and Bike Show” will feature a variety of activities.
Spectator entry is free. Registration for car show participants opens at 8 a.m., with a $20 entry fee per class. Awards will be given at 11:30 a.m.
There will be door prizes, 50-50 tickets, multiple food options and vendor booths. Vendor spaces are available for $20 each.
Pastor Kelley and the members of Chapel Hill Baptist Church encourage the community to come out and enjoy a fund day for a good cause.
