If Luverne was feeling good, fresh off their 41-20 takedown of Zion Chapel last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers were beaten 36-8 on Friday night and the contest marked the Tigers’ lowest-scoring match this season, and the third loss at home.

Montgomery Academy found their leader in underclassman quarterback Ried McBride who threw for 216 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes and rushed for 35 yards. Those four touchdown passes sent a new season high mark for McBride and DJ Vinson was McBride’s target, picking up 77 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Luverne’s Kane Smith was 4-for13 for 76  yards from his quarterback slot. After a 0-0 deadlock in the first quarter, the Eagles scored two quick touchdowns to take a 13-0 lead.

Then Tigers’ senior running back Alijah Hurst scored from seven yards out. Wlliot Harris’s two PAT runs were good and the score stood at 13-8.

But any hope the Tigers held for pulling off any upset of the 3A, No. 8 Eagles were dashed as the Eagles reeled off 23 unanswered points to secure a 36-8 victory.

Luverne dropped their record to 2-and-3 with the loss, third fourth straight defeat at home dating back to last season. As for Montgomery Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road since last season and puts them at 5-1.

Both teams are looking for the support of their home crown in upcoming games. Luverne will face the Calhoun Tigers for homecoming and the Eagles host a the longtime rival, the Trinity Wildcats.

Kickoff for both games is at 7 p.m.
