ADECA to Host Community Projects Tour

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) will host Dr. Jennifer Clyburn Reed, the Federal Co-Chair of the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission, for a tour of community projects in several southeast Alabama communities.

Highlights of the visit include a groundbreaking ceremony for the new South Central Alabama Mental Health Center with Gov. Kay Ivey and other leaders in Brantley at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and a tour of the Troy University Arboretum at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Both projects received grant funding from the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission in 2024. Reed will also join ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell for community visits to Luverne, Brundidge and Troy as part of the visit to discuss community needs and tour current and potential projects.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

10:30-11:30 a.m.: Tour of Luverne

Meet at Luverne City Hall, 22 East 5th Street, Luverne, AL

Reed and Boswell will meet with Luverne Mayor Ed Beasley and other leaders for a tour of potential infrastructure projects in the city.

2 p.m.: South Central Alabama Mental Health Center Groundbreaking event with Gov. Ivey in Brantley

115 Victory Lane, Brantley, AL 36009, off U.S. Highway 331

Reed will join Gov. Ivey and Alabama Department of Mental Health Commissioner Kim Boswell to break ground on the new mental health center that will serve those suffering from mental health issues, substance abuse and disabilities in Butler, Coffee, Covington and Crenshaw counties. Total grant funds in the amount of $405,000 from the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission are supporting infrastructure for the new center.

3:30-4:30 p.m.: Tour of Brundidge

Meet at Brundidge City Hall, 200 North Main St., Brundidge, AL

Reed and Boswell will meet with Brundidge Mayor Isabell Boyd and other leaders for a tour of current and potential community projects. A grant from the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission is helping Brundidge address issues with its aging sewer system.

Wednesday, Nov. 13

8:45-10 a.m.: Tour of Troy University Arboretum and Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences

Meet at gated parking lot across from Trojan Dining Hall, 410 John M. Long Drive, for bus transportation to Arboretum. The code is 4130*

Reed and Boswell will join Troy University leaders for a tour of the Arboretum and the Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences facility. A grant from the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission is enhancing educational opportunities and recreational access at the Arboretum.

10:30-11:30 a.m.: Tour of City of Troy

Meet at Troy City Hall, 306 E. Academy St., Troy, AL

Reed and Boswell will join Mayor Jason Reeves and other leaders for a tour of potential projects in Troy.
