The Middle Verse of the Bible
By Brandon Baggett
If you are reading from the King James Version, you will find 31,102 verses in your Bible. These many verses are spread out over hundreds of chapters, an Old and New Testament and 66 individual books of the Bible. That’s a lot of Scripture, and truly every word, verse and passage in the Bible is important.
As the apostle Paul noted, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV).
But have you ever thought about the middle verse of the Bible? There are actually two middle verses in the Bible. These verses have 15,550 verses before them and after them. They can be found in Psalm 103 where the Old Testament poet said, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:1-2 ESV). It’s incredible to find a text inviting us to praise God and thank him for all of his blessings in the exact middle of the Bible. How fitting
As you and your family gather around the Thanksgiving table in a few days, let me challenge you to remember the middle verse of the Bible. Be sure to take an inventory of your life, remember how blessed you are, and thank the Lord for all of his benefits! More than this, remember the middle verse of the Bible each and every day of your life. Practice the act of giving thanks each day, praising God for his bountiful blessings in your life and giving him a life of sincere devotion.
