The Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) recently applied for and was awarded a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) – National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Grant. Through this grant, the Crenshaw County Extension Office was able to deliver “Weather Wise” workshops under the Helping Every Alabamian Develop Storm Understanding and Preparedness (HEADS-UP) program covered under the grant.

The workshops were presented to a few of the senior centers in the county. These workshops help communities prepare for common natural disasters that they may experience. They highlight the differences between watches and warnings, as well as how to identify safe shelter locations, making home emergency kits, and financial recovery after a disaster.

Participants received weather radios after completing the program.
