South Luverne Baptist Church and the Love it Again Christmas Project teamed up for a toy and clothing drive aimed at bringing the magic of the holiday season to children across Crenshaw County. The event was an effort to ensure that children, regardless of their circumstances, experience the joy of Christmas.

The initiative encouraged the community to donate gently used toys, clothes and other items suitable for children from newborns to teenagers. Contributions ranged from bikes and games to makeup kits for teens, clothing, jewelry and more creating a wide array of gifts for families needing a holiday boost of support.

For Lacy Colquitt, founder of the Love it Again Christmas Project, the mission is deeply personal.
“During my son’s first Christmas, I was leaving a domestic violence situation and didn’t have a job,” she shared. “A church thrift shop helped us, and it was such a blessing. Since then, I’ve felt a calling to give back, especially at Christmas.”

Colquitt expressed her heartfelt appreciation for SLBC’s support in realizing her vision.
“Their partnership and the amazing volunteers have helped us bless nearly 30 families this year,” she said.

“Our Christmas giveaway was a huge success!” said South Luverne pastor Justin Jacobs of South Luverne. “We’re so thankful to everyone who donated and volunteered to make this possible. If you’re looking for a church that serves the community and does God’s work, we’d love for you to visit South Luverne Baptist Church.”

The toy and clothing drive also addressed a critical need for families facing financial challenges during the holiday season, particularly those who don’t qualify for assistance through traditional programs.

“The economic climate has made Christmas hard for many,” Colquitt explained. “There’s often a gap between families with plenty of resources and those receiving assistance. Our project helps fill that gap.”

Justin Jacobs, pastor at South Luverne, encouraged families to clean out their toy boxes and donate items to the drive and is thankful for the response.

“We were not asking for anything new unless they felt led to give,” Jacobs said. “But we are very blessed that we also had new things donated to bless others with. Gently used toys, clothes, etc. and Items for older kids ages 10 and up were especially needed and we are so thankful for the outpouring of support and volunteers.”

While South Luverne and the Love it Again Christmas Project may proceed independently next year, both Colquitt and Jacobs remain committed to expanding their outreaches.

For those looking to contribute to next year’s efforts, donations are already being accepted. Contact Jacobs at 334-482-3321 or Colquitt at 334-400-3014 to learn more.
