Jesus Is The Son Of God

By Dean Kelly

Peter made the confession upon which all of Christianity is built, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God” (Matthew 16:16).

The Bible provides information to support Peter’s confession.

1) The Virgin Birth: Jesus is the deity Who has existed eternally (Hebrews :13:8, Revelation 1:8, John 1:1-4). He left His home and His station to pitch His tent upon earth in a physical body (Philippians 2:5-8). He became the Son of God as He was born to a virgin, one who had previously had no physical relations with a man, to be the only human born without the agency of a man (Matthew 1:18-25).

2) The Fulfillment Of Prophecy: Many details of Jesus’ life are very specifically prophesied, for example, where He would be born (Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:1-6). Often the Bible writers say that an event in Jesus’ life fulfilled prophesies. This proves He is the Son of God.

3) The Miracles He Did: John states it clearly, “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:30-31).

4) His Resurrection: Paul writes, “and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (Romans 1:4). When we come to the cross, we see Jesus dying for our sins. But when we go to the open tomb, we see the powerful Son of God, the only person to be raised from the dead to never die again.

Let us come to the cross – and bow at the feet of the Son of God Who has overcome death for us, if we will simply submit to Him in obedient faith!
