It was fun while it lasted, but Brantley’s undefeated season came to an end on Jan. 7 after 13 straight wins. It was a surprise in the dog and cat fight in McKenzie as the Bulldogs handed a victory to the Tigers, 51-48.

McKenzie’s success was the result of a well-balanced attack that saw several players, especially Quay Jackson, lead the charge, almost dropping a triple-double on 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals. After losing for the first time this season, Brantley fell to 13-and-1.

After another loss — to Georgiana, 78-73 — the Bulldogs got back to their winning ways as they won a home cat and dog fight, 81-43, over the Red Level Tigers. The Tigers’ doom came at the hands of Brantley senior Jayden Parks, who shot 9-of-16 from the floor racking 29 points.

The win marked the 28th game in a row where he scored at least 10 games in a row. He also kicked in seven boards and seven assists.

Once again, he teamed up with Jon Kilcrease who dropped a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. With the win, and another over Kinston Tuesday, 86-39, Brantley’s record stands at 15-2.

The Lady Bulldogs scored a season high Jan. 9 with a 67-56 win over the Georgiana Panthers. This was a payback for the Lady Dogs who suffered a 50-34 loss the last time the two clubs met.

The win was the girls’ third win in a row. A 46-15 victory over Red Level Saturday, followed by a loss, 60-54, to Kinston, puts the Lady Bulldogs at 9-and-8 on the season. Their wins have come thanks in part to their offensive output as they have averaged 53 points per game.

Highland Home Flying Squadron

The Highland Home varsity boys are flying high. After an overwhelming defeat of Central High School in Hayneville, 58-7, the Flyboys trampled JU Blacksher, 47-19, then grounded the Goshen Eagles, 56-19 before winning against Central-Hayneville Tuesday, 78-15.

Highland Home’s ladies are going strong on a four-game winning streak too. A 58-7 victory over Central’s Lions on Jan. 7 was followed by a win over the Blacksher Bulldogs, 56-19, before an overwhelming 56-19 defeat of the Goshen Eagles preceded Tuesday’s besting of the Lions in Hayneville, 78-15.

The Flying Squadron travels into Lowndes County again Friday to take on The Calhoun School Tigers.

Luverne School Tigers

Coach Larry Dorsey and his Luverne Tiger men have won back-to-back games: 60-31 over the Goshen Eagles and 56-21 on the road at Zion Chapel. The 2025 year has been very kind to the Tigers as they have won 4 out of five to bump their overall record to 7-and-10 to sit atop the 2A Area 3 with a 3-0 record with the victories.

In 15 games, the Tigers offense have scored a total 816 points but have given up 794, a difference of 22 points in that same span. The Tigers hit the road Saturday afternoon to face the 8-and-5 5A Andalusia Bulldogs, sustaining a 51-40 loss.

The Tigers rebounded Tuesday with a 66-47 win over the Pike Lib Patriots
