Shooting in Highland Home leaves one injured

A shooting incident in Highland Home unfolded just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The occurrence prompted a swift response from law enforcement and emergency personnel with Highland Home Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department arriving on the scene within seven minutes of dispatch.
According to Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Chris Stewart, the incident involved two separate scenes, an area near Highway 97 and Pettus Road and at It Don’t Matter Family Restaurant. Stewart said that a 67-year-old man from Lapine sustained injuries and was airlifted from the Highland Home Football Field to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Sheriff’s office has leads on three possible suspects they are working to bring in.
Stewart confirmed that the incident was not an officer-involved shooting. Stewart said the incident was an isolated event. There was no threat to the community or local schools.
The Highland Home Football Field served as Life Flight landing zone for emergency crews to transport the victim for medical care. Stewart said he could not release the victim’s name until family had been contacted
