Luverne High School senior Jameria Green achieved a remarkable milestone earlier this basketball season, scoring her 1,000th career point. She is the daughter of Joseph and Tekela Green, and was honored at halftime during the Lady Tigers’ Jan. 16 home victory over Zion Chapel, 48-15.

“It’s truly a blessing to reach such a big milestone, and it encourages me to really keep going,” Green said. “This accomplishment really means a lot. I look at it as a big step in my basketball journey, and I hope to do more with basketball in the future.”

The halftime ceremony drew an outpouring of support from Green’s family, friends and community members. Reflecting on the special night, Green expressed her gratitude.

“I want to express my heartfelt thanks for coming out to support me for my 1k ceremony and basketball game,” Green said. “Your support means the world to me, and it’s really made a difference having you all there cheering me on.”

Viewed as a cornerstone of the Lady Tigers’ success, Green attributes her achievement to years of hard work and dedication and to the unwavering support of her teammates.

“I can remember the days I played outside 24/7, just practicing on what I can do better,” Green said. “No matter what, you have to work with what you have and the time you have, to the very best of your ability.”

Lady Tigers’ Head coach Richard Dorsey commended Green’s determination and impact on the team.

“Jameria is a very hard worker and has great energy when she is totally in and ready to play,” Dorsey said. “She has been a great addition to our team and a big part of our success this season. My only regret is that I didn’t have a chance to coach her in her earlier years. She will be missed.”

Green’s journey to 1,000 points was made possible not only by her own efforts but also by those of her teammates and supporters.

“My team is a huge part of this achievement; it wouldn’t have happened without them,” Green said. “My teammates put me in great positions on the court at all times and that  is a huge reason why I was able to make it to 1,000 career points. I’d like to thank God first, family, friends, teammates and coaches.”

Green dedicated the landmark occasion to her younger cousin Jakaylee Moore.

“She has always treated me like a star and made me feel like a star,” said Green. “She’s a star too and I can’t wait to see her accomplish her basketball dreams.”

Looking ahead, Green plans to continue her basketball journey in college while pursuing a nursing degree.

“In college, I will still play basketball, and if my talent takes me professionally, I will be on board for that.”
