David Irwin Beard

David Beard, 74, a resident of Luverne, passed away unexpectedly at Jackson Hospital on Monday, April 29. A celebration of David’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, at 257 Honoraville Road, Luverne, Alabama 36049.

David was first and foremost the kind of Southern gentleman that every mama hopes her son turns out to be. He always knew how to treat any lady he encountered, treated his elders with all the respect they deserved, loved the Lord with all his heart and soul, and constantly went out of his way to help anyone who needed it in any way that he could. He was an official Mr. Helper to all of his friends and neighbors when it came to fixing whatever was broken or finding that specific, obscure part that was needed.

David also loved fishing in his free time, but his true passion in life was vintage automobiles. He actually made a fine career out of restoring old cars and trucks to pristine condition, and they were always real beauties and as close to a piece of art as possible. He was also loyal to a fault when it came to his friends and family. He loved being Miss Kaye’s “Hunny Bunny” throughout their wonderful time together, as well as her Lawnmower Man Extraordinaire! He was the kind of friend everyone wants to have and that friendship was cherished by his best buddies: Rick Boyett, Bobby Cheek, Gary “Frog” Fountain, and Andy Tomlin. He meant so much to so many people during his life and they will all keep his memory alive for many more years to come.

David was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Dean Beard; parents, Raymond and Nell Fike Beard; and brother, Jeff Beard. He is survived by his loving partner of 22 years, Kaye Tomlin Oswald; siblings, Steve (Veronica) Beard, Sheila Douglas and Polly (Harold) Stewart; and nieces and nephews, Hannah Puentes, Samuel Douglas, Jennifer Judice, Edward Souza and Lauren Kassamali.
