Garner arrested, charged with attempted murder

A suspect is in custody following a Brantley shooting Tuesday afternoon.
Luverne resident Shawn Garner, 20, was apprehended by Brantley Police Department Assistant Chief Drew Morgan shortly after the Maple Street shooting that left a juvenile in critical condition.
According to Brantley Police Department (BPD) Assistant Chief Drew Morgan, the shooting resulted from a domestic dispute.
“We had one gunshot victim,” said Morgan. “This was the result of a domestic dispute between a girlfriend and boyfriend and one of the parties is a minor.”
At approximately 2 p.m., officers from the Brantley Police Department and deputies with the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency call reporting a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the juvenile victim inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Immediate medical assistance was administered by Brantley Rescue and the victim was airlifted to a hospital in Montgomery for further treatment.
Garner was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm. He is currently being held at the Crenshaw County Detention Facility.
The victim’s identity will not be released due to their age. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
