Highland Home business expands to new ventures

Owners of Fire and Ice Heating and Air are embarking on a new venture, after purchasing another business in Highland Home.
Fire and Ice, owned by Jarred and Emily McGough, provides heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) installation services. The business launched in 2019, when Jarred decided to take his personal HVAC experience and transform it into his own business. With himself, Emily and one other staff member, the couple began their first business.
“He was like, ‘I kind of want to do my own thing, but I don’t know how it’ll go,’” Emily McGough said. “He’d hop in his little Astro van and he would be gone until 9 or 10 p.m. doing service calls. It’s just building up a customer base.”
Recently, the couple purchased the operation now known as Highland Home Hardware, located at 19000 Montgomery Highway in Highland Home.
The venture began when Jarred and Emily learned that the previous owners were selling the business. Now, renovated and fully stocked, the store has been selling to the Highland Home community since March of 2024.
“We just kind of wanted to expand and get another business,” Emily McGough said. “Mainly because of the cows; we have livestock. We have a lot going on on that side too and Jarred wants to not have all of our eggs in one basket.”
Currently, Emily acts as the human resources manager of the business, alongside Mallory Morgan, who works as manager.
While most of the shelves are stocked, the McGoughs hope to bring even more to their customers, including ammunition, hunting gear and other hardware and outdoor supplies.
“I love it,” Morgan said. “The growth is really good because when we started out there wasn’t hardly anything in here, and now the customers come in and they’re happy because we have what they want and stop by, so it’s a win-win. We get to help each other, the customers come in and we’re able to help them fix their plumbing or [fill] whatever needs that they have for the day. It gives you a sense of satisfaction knowing that we were able to help somebody.”
Highland Home Hardware is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m to 4 p.m on Sunday.
