John E. Rodgers

John E. Rodgers (Johnny), age 75, a resident of Goshen, died on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. at Good Hope Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Rodgers School House located on County Road 2203 Goshen.

Johnny was born in Troy. He moved with his family to Maryland 12 years later. His dream was to move back to the family farm in Goshen and 35 years later he made his dream a reality. He opened a small grocery store called “Rodgers Grocery” and made it successful for 31 years. He was loved and respected in the neighborhood and surrounding communities. He was well known for having a “Badboy and Lucky Hog Cooking” every October for several years and in later years he cooked out beside his grocery store welcoming everyone from surrounding communities. He was well known, respected and loved in his neighborhood and surrounding communities. He retired a few years ago to have more time for family, relaxing and watching western movies which he loved to do. Johnny lived a happy and fulfilling life doing what he loved to do and being where he loved to be.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Stella Rodgers; children: John Rodgers (Stephanie), Jason Rodgers (Eljane); grandchildren: Cameron Rodgers, Zachary Rodgers, Julseloe Nacaituna, Daniella Nacaituna and Mason Rodgers; sister: Anne Fisher (Dave Osgood); brother: Tommy Rodgers (Ilene Levine); nephews: Nick Fisher (Brigid O’Flaherty), Ryan Fisher (Hayley Brooks) and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Edward and Mable Frances Rodgers.
