The Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office was called out to Helicon, Ala. on Sunday, July 18 for an attempted murder.

Sheriff Terry Mears said the call involved a domestic situation that had turned bad. “The guy pulled a knife on his girlfriend and was threatening to stab her,” Mears said.

According to Lieutenant Marcus Laster, Kendrick Shepherd broke into his ex girlfriend’s home through a bedroom window. Shepherd was wanting to retrieve items left in the home, but was denied entrance due to his violent history. Shepherd grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threatened harm to the girlfriend.

Laster said once he arrived on scene, Shepherd dropped the knife and ran into the wood. Laster had already requested assistance and had the dog team already in route before arriving, knowing Shepherd had a history of fleeing.

ADOC dog team, the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office, and Alabama Game and Fish tracked shepherd down three to four hours later.

Shepherd was arrested on charges of burglary first, robbery second. Shepherd has several other charges on his record, including 13 felonies according to the Sheriff’s Office.
