The road seems to be very kind to coach Bobby Hudson as the Luverne Tigers have produced victories two weeks in a row.

This week the Tigers traveled to Jack and dismembered the Zion Chapel Rebels in Coffee County 41-20 in a 2A Region 3 matchup. Luverne used a well-balanced offense as they rushed for 226 yards and passed for 218 yards in wrapping up the win.

As the Tigers broke their offense, they gave the Rebels a different look as the team set up five wide and drove 69 yards in five plays for the first score of the game. With 8:04 showing on the clock, running back Alijah Hurst went in from two yards out while Elliot Harris converted on the two point play giving the Tigers an early 8-0 lead.

A strong defensive stand forced the Rebels to punt and the Tigers moved down the field until a fumble halted the drive giving the Rebels life midway through the first quarter. Zion Chapel drove 66 yards in eight plays when the quarterback raced ten yards for the touchdown making the score 8-8 after the PAT.

After a great punt return by Harris the Tigers racked their second score of the night on a five play 29 yard drive making the score 14-8 after the missed PAT. The scoring did not stop there as the Tigers closed out the half by scoring on a pass play giving them a 22-8 lead and then scoring again late in the third quarter to extend their lead to 20 points.

The Rebels would not be outdown and excited the home crowd with an 80-yard kickoff return to cut the lead to 14. The Tigers quickly scored a touchdown of their own when quarterback Kane Smith scored from four yards out to cap off a four-play, 54-yard drive making the score 34-14 after the PAT.

To start the 4th quarter the Rebels offense marched 64 yards in 11 plays to cut the Tiger lead back to 14. The Tigers were able to close out the game on a five-play, 75-yard scoring drive with Harris scoring from five yards out for his third touchdown of the game.

The PAT was good making the final score 41-20.

The Tiger offense showed several offensive looks in this game to gain 444 yards. The passing showed some life as junior quarterback Smith went 7-of-11 for 218 yards. Running back Harris picked up the rushing game as he had 17 carries for 147 yards and two touchdowns and five catches.

The Tigers now stand at 2-and-2 overall and 2-0 in region play. They face the Montgomery Academy Eagles Friday night at Glen Daniel Stadium. Kickoff is set at 7 p.m.
