LHS celebrates homecoming with ‘A Tail of Tradition’

Luverne High School (LHS) is set to celebrate its annual Homecoming festivities on Oct. 4, with the theme “A Tail of Tradition.” This year’s event promises a full day of activities aimed at honoring the community, alumni, and the spirited Luverne Tigers.
The festivities are set to shine with the crowning ofAmiracle Taylor as the 2024 LHS Homecoming Queen. Taylor, the daughter of Alicia Thigpen and Nikki Taylor, will preside over the school’s homecoming activities, bringing elegance and excitement to the celebration.
Joining Taylor on her royal court are Senior Attendants Dakyndra Harris and De’Nyia Scott. Harris is the daughter of Ashlyn Salter and Demetrius Harris, and Scott is the daughter of De’Angela Scott.
Representing the Junior class, Adasia Bryant will serve as the Junior Attendant. She is the daughter of Selena Lowery and O’Derick Bryant. Sophomore Kamia Parks will take her place as the Sophomore Attendant, and is the daughter of Andrea Wicker and Pat Parks.
Freshman Kaylee Evans completes the court as the Freshman Attendant. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Evans.
The youngest members of the court are Crown Bearer Master Erik Harris, son of Erick and Angelina Harris, and Scepter Bearer Little Miss Alana Shelley, daughter of Erica Hurley and Authur Shelley.
In addition to the homecoming court, the Football Sweethearts for the 2024 season were also announced. Miss Football Sweetheart is Miss Finley Marchand, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dustin Marchand. The title of Little Miss Football Spirit goes to Madilyn Smith, daughter of Alen and Carrie Smith, while Langston Young, son of Zari Pitts-Sankey and the late Xavius Young, has been named Little Mister Football Spirit.
The festivities will kick off on Thursday, Oct. 3. Luverne High School will host a community pep rally beginning at 6 p.m. on the band practice field. This spirited event invites all community members to come together and rally support for the Luverne Tigers.
Attendees can look forward to an evening filled with excitement, featuring performances by the cheerleaders and the marching band, as well as special appearances by the football team and the Homecoming court. It’s a perfect opportunity for fans of all ages to unite and show their pride ahead of Friday’s big game against the Calhoun Tigers.
Community members are encouraged to wear their Tiger colors and bring their loudest cheers to help boost the team’s morale. Join fellow supporters for an unforgettable night of camaraderie and school spirit as the countdown to Homecoming officially begins!
Friday festivities will kick off bright and early at 8 a.m. with a special reception in the high school library, honoring the returning Class of 2015. Following this warm welcome, the formal presentation of the homecoming queen and her court will take place at 9 a.m. in the Samuel M. Carr Gymnasium, a cherished tradition that highlights the school’s vibrant spirit.
At noon, the community is invited to join in the excitement of the Homecoming parade in downtown Luverne. Attendees are encouraged to come out and show their support for the Luverne Tigers as they march through the streets, celebrating school pride and community unity.
The highlight of the day will undoubtedly be the football game against the Calhoun Tigers, starting at 7 p.m. Fans can arrive early for pre-game festivities at 6:30 p.m., which will feature performances by the alumni band and cheerleaders, igniting school spirit before the big game.
As the Luverne Tigers prepare to take the field, the school invites the entire community to come together and celebrate this cherished tradition. It’s a day filled with pride, nostalgia and the unbreakable spirit of the Luverne Tigers!
