The Brantley Bulldogs rebounded from their recent slump with a 54-28 win over Kinston Friday. But this past week was not altogether kind to the Brantley Bulldogs nation. After a 54-46 loss to McKenzie that knocked the Dogs out of the 2024 1A playoffs, longtime coach Ronald Jones, Jr. sent out the word that he will hang up his duties in favor of retirement.
The green-clad Dogs, who have been away from for three games, were more than happy to return to the friendly confines of David Lowery Stadium. Kinston never got on the board two weeks ago, losing 44 to 0 against Mkenzie but that was not the case in their recent matchup against the Pleasant Home Eagles as they won 48 to 20 at home.
Brantley has traveled a rocky road recently losing four of five of the last games. As for Kinston, Friday’s win bumped their record to 3-and-6. Brantley came away with a nailbiter win last year sneaking out a 30-27 victory.
But this Friday night was a different story. Brantley rolled big yardage in scoring 54 points under quarterback Jayden Parks, wide receiver Daylan Davis, Cooper Layton and running back Tyler Carter. Brantley will close out their 2024 foot football season this week with coach Jones’ last game leading the Dogs at David Lowery Stadium against the 2A Ariton Purple Cats.
Kick off is set for 7 p.m. Friday night.
