Meet Taco Bella and Freckles, two devoted four-legged friends belonging to Dean and Connie Nation of Luverne. The two were named as the Luverne Veterinary Hospital’s Pets of the Week. These pups may be different in size and breed, but they share a strong bond and a love for sunbathing, chasing lizards and snacking on their favorite treat — chicken jerky.

Taco Bella, a petite Chihuahua, has a big personality packed into her tiny frame. Despite having diabetes, which requires insulin injections twice daily, Taco Bella stays full of love and loyalty. She doesn’t let the routine needle pricks dampen her spirit, continuing to shower her family with affection. At night, she curls up safely in her playpen, resting up for another day of sun-filled lounging.

Freckles, a Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix, brings a different kind of energy to the Nation household. Known for her protective instincts, Freckles sleeps at the foot of her parents’ bed, ever-vigilant and ready to defend her family.

In a moment of bravery on Aug. 8, Freckles stepped between Connie and a venomous timber rattler when the pair were walking around just outside the house, giving her mom time to make a safe escape.

The two pups’ personalities may vary, but together, Taco Bella and Freckles bring double the joy to the Nation family, and exemplify the love and loyalty pets bring to their homes.
