Coach Brandon Burleson‘s Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars ended their 2024 gridiron season on a sad note at the hands of the Patrician Academy Saints, 41 to 8. The Cats took the 130-mile trip to Butler in West Alabama in hopes of continuing their season, and snapping a losing streak. But that would not be the case for the Cougars.
Crenshaw Christian received the opening kickoff and came out chucking the ball. After five successful passes, they had the ball at the Saints 29-yard line, but the scoring threat ended when Cougar quarterback Grant Taylor’s toss was picked off at the Saints two-yard line.
It didn’t take long for Patrician to get on the scoreboard when running back Tim Myles raced 98 yards for a score. The PAT run for two points by Myles was good and just like that the Saints were up 8-0. Once again, the Cats drove deep into Saints territory, going 12 plays and 59 yards as they were looking for the end zone.
But the Saints’ defense stood tall to shut down their march at the Patrician 18-yard line. On the last play of the first quarter the Saints scored again and took a 14 to 0 lead.
With the ensuing kick off, the Cats returned 51 yards to the Patrician 29-yard line. From there, they moved the ball down to the five-yard line and after two run attempts from the one-yard line, were turned away. This time the Saints drove 99 yards with their eye on the end zone, finding it again for another score.
Leading 21-0 the Saints closed out the first half of scoring on the last play with a 79-yard run to make the score stand at 28 to 0 as both teams hit the locker room. On CCA‘s first possession of the second half, the Cougar coaching staff decided to roll the dice on a fourth-and-one play, which failed at their own 30-yard line. From there the Saints covered 30 yards in six plays with Myles going into the end zone from two yards out.
Leading 34 to nothing, Patrician gained eight yards for another touchdown, the last one of the game. Down 41-0, CCA finally got on the board with an eight-yard run by senior running back Dalton Jordan. His run for two points on the PAT was also good and the score read Patricia 41, CCA 8.
The Cougars closed out the season on a six-game losing streak with the loss to go 4-and-7 on the season. The Saints will move on to take on the No. 2 ranked Lowndes Academy Rebels, who are 9-and-0 on the year.
