A festive spirit swept through Crenshaw County last week with a trio of joyous parades celebrating the holiday season.

On Dec. 4, Luverne Health and Rehabilitation residents enjoyed a front-porch view of their annual Christmas parade. Complete with an appearance from Santa, his elf and the one and only Mr. Grinch, the specially-planned midday parade was a delight to residents of the long-term care facility.

The excitement continued on the evening of Dec. 5 as downtown Luverne came alive for its night time Christmas parade. Local civic groups, like the Luverne Kiwanis club, and congregations from close by and as far as north Crenshaw County turned out for the parade which did not include candy distribution this year due to a concern for the safety of children tempted to enter the roadway for sweet treats.

The week’s celebrations culminated in Brantley on Dec. 7 with the town’s Christmas parade and holiday fair. Brantley School’s Tiny Miss Evelyn Mitchell greeted her adoring fans. Serving as grand marshalls were members of the Brantley Youth Football and Cheer League.
