Authorities and emergency personnel responded to a report of a shooting victim needing help in Highland Home shortly after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim, identified as 67-year-old Bobby Furr of Lapine, was injured in what officials say was an armed burglary that took place on Bethlehem Road.

Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Chris Stewart said Furr is now at home and recovering.

“Not much has changed since yesterday, but the victim is doing well given the circumstances,” Stewart said Thursday. “Investigator Arthur Teague and I spoke with him this morning, and he’s in good spirits.”

After sustaining gunshot wounds, Furr drove himself to It Don’t Matter restaurant where he was intercepted by Luverne Rescue and then airlifted by Enterprise Air Rescue from the Highland Home Football Field to a nearby hospital.

Furr was treated and later released the same day.

Officials confirmed that this was not an officer-involved shooting, nor did it pose any ongoing risk to the public or local schools, clarifying that the only gunfire took place on Furr’s family property.

The sheriff’s office has identified two potential suspects and is actively working to locate them, though no arrests have been made at this time.
