4-H holds back to school bash

The Alabama 4-H and Extension Cooperative Extension Office held a Back to School Bash on Thursday, August 26, at the Tom Harbin Ag Center.
The event was held to kick off the new 4-H year and introduce parents and children to 4-H and what they offer.
“We were very pleased with Crenshaw County Extension’s first 4-H Back to School Bash,” Amanda Evans, Crenshaw County Extension coordinator, said. “Even with these unusual times, we had approximately 45 children to participate in the event. (Ambien) We would also like to thank Alabama Forestry Commission, Alabama Wildlife and Fisheries, NRCS, and Crenshaw County Career Academy for their partnership.”
Kids of all ages were able to plant their clovers or paint wood ornaments.
Alabama Wildlife and Fisheries provided fish casting practice. Attendees were able to view different animal scats, tracks, skins, and skulls with Bence Carter in a hands-on activity or view a groundwater demonstration.
Smokey the Bear and his friend Casey Petty were available for pictures. Brisket the Bull, horses, chickens and ducks were available for kids to view and observe.
The Crenshaw County Career Academy set up a table to hand out informational material and answer any questions regarding classes and activities that they offer. Bill Freeman, the new archery teacher, was also at the event with deerskins and antlers.
P- Flickers Boiled Peanuts and 2 Brothers Ice Cream were on hand for snacks. Door prizes and goodie bags were given away throughout the event.
