Jerry Underwood Ellison

Jerry Underwood Ellison passed away on November 2, 2021. She was born May 18, 1927, the daughter of Joseph Samuel Underwood and Claudie Bell Carr Underwood, of Sprague Junction, Alabama.

She was predeceased by her two sisters, Jo Ellen Holman and Ciddie Cauthen.

Having graduated from Ramer High School and Huntingdon College, Jerry married R. C. Ellison on July 22, 1947.

C. completed a Forestry degree at Auburn University, and he and Jerry moved to Luverne, Alabama, where Jerry touched many young lives through her years of service at the Luverne Church of Christ before she and RC relocated to Prattville, Alabama in 1983. They became faithful members of Hunter Station Church of Christ, and later, Grandview Pines Church of Christ.

Jerry enjoyed two careers as a Social Worker. She worked in Child Welfare for the State of Alabama in Crenshaw County, and later as an adoption caseworker for AGAPE of Central Alabama, in Montgomery. She made a difference through her work.

Jerry is survived by her three children: Sandra Duncan (Jerry) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Sam Ellison (Zelan) of Cook Springs, Alabama; and Sharon Thompson (Jim) of Hoover, Alabama. She was devoted to her six grandchildren and was delighted to welcome 10 great-grandchildren to her brood, one of whom has met her in heaven to show her around. (Kbeautypharm) Her grandchildren include: Jeremy Duncan (Marsha) of Dallas, Texas; Clay Ellison (Lisa) of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; Phillip Duncan (Mary Alice) of Nolensville, Tennessee; Rosh Ellison of Birmingham, Alabama; Ellison Thompson of Nashville, Tennessee; and Sam Thompson (Natalie) of Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m., Monday, November 8, at Heritage Place Church of Christ, 5252 U. S. 78 E, in Irondale, Alabama.

Later that afternoon, burial will occur at Forest Hills Cemetery (south of Montgomery on Hwy 331), following a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to AGAPE of Central Alabama.
