Highland Home’s varsity football team kept the Providence Christian Eagles grounded Friday night in a 28-6 victory at Providence Christian Stadium.
“I’m extremely proud of our team and how we competed,” Flying Squadron head coach Will Pouncey said. “We have to be more consistent in our performance and take care of the football. We are nowhere near where we need to be, but we are taking good strides.
“Our offensive line really answered the bell this week, and Brice McKenzie, our quarterback, continues to make plays on offense. Keldric Faulk and JJ Faulk continue to be a force for our defense. Austin Norman and Cooper Ingram have had a great two games, and we hope all these guys continue to practice every day with the mission to get better as an individual and a team.”
Within the first three minutes of play, Keldric Faulk caught a pass from McKenzie for a 77-yard touchdown that had the Highland Home crowd standing and cheering loudly.
In the second quarter, McKenzie found wide receiver Kendarius Shepherd for a 22-yard touchdown just before halftime, making the score 14-6.
Keldric Faulk found the end zone once again in the third quarter with a 24-yard run. Austin Norman secured the extra point.
With just under two minutes left in the game, McKenzie completed a pass to Tyler Chaney, adding another touchdown and extending the Flying Squadron lead by 22 points.
Highland Home will play at home Friday night against Ariton at 7.
