Brantley High School’s football team kept its undefeated season intact with a dominant 42-6 victory over Class 1A, Region 2 foe McKenzie at Brantley Field on Friday night.

The Bulldogs bludgeoned the opposition with their ground attack, with three running backs registering a combined five rushing touchdowns. Kedrick Brown rushed for 40 yards and two touchdowns on four attempts, while adding six tackles on defense. Robert Shine (five carries for 45 yards) and Trey Pittman (eight carries for 60 yards) spearheaded the remainder of the scoring drives.

Bulldogs quarterback Jayden Parks led  his team through the air, going 8-of-11 for 130 yards. Jon Bush caught two passes for 50 yards, while Kaleb Weed caught three passes for 46 yards. 

Axton Saunders stepped up on defense with an interception.

Shine reminded the Tigers whose house they were in from the moment both squads set foot on the field. His first touchdown came within the first minute of play. 

With 7:25 left in the first quarter, Shine added to Brantley’s lead by snagging an interception and making his way back to the endzone. Parks made the extra point to make the score 14-0 in the Bulldogs’ favor.

Brown added another 6 points with just under half the quarter left to play. Later in the first quarter, Brown zig-zagged through McKenzie defenders for  his second touchdown, placing Brantley up by 28.

Trevon Pittman made the fifth touchdown of the night, and because Bulldog’s stick together, he followed up with a sixth touchdown shortly after. 

The Bulldogs entered into halftime 42-0. The second-stringers took over when play resumed for two eight-minute quarters featuring a running clock. 

The Tigers were able to add six points to the scoreboard in the fourth quarter to prevent the shutout

Brantley (3-0, 2-0) will travel to Elba on Friday, Sept 9, to take on the Tigers (3-0, 2-0). The two teams last met in 2019, a 21-18 win for the Bulldogs. Elba leads the all-time series with a 32-13 record against Brantley, according to the Alabama High School Football Historical Society’s website, http://www.ahsfhs.org.
