Crenshaw Christian Academy secured its second win of the season against Class 2A Lakeside School, 43-7, Friday night.
The Cougars’ defense prevented the Chiefs from scoring in three of four quarters and secured two interceptions during the game, while the offense generated six touchdowns and 423 yards of offense, with 330 yards coming from the running game.
“We started off pretty good,” said CCA head coach Wayne Grant. “In the beginning, we scored two touchdowns. Then we kinda hit a plateau for about 12 minutes. We didn’t do much. I challenged them at halftime to come back and do what they needed to do, and they did it. I am proud of them.”
Cougars quarterback Logan Owens went 5-of-10 for 93 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He added 77 yards on 12 rushes and made four tackles on defense.
Brayden Moore, running back and safety, carried the ball eight times for 104 yards and two catches for 31 yards, with one rushing touchdown, one receiving touchdown, three tackles and one interception.
Casey Morgan, Cougars running back and wide receiver, gained 74 yards on seven rushes with one touchdown and a reception for three yards.
Drake Mills, running back and linebacker, finished with 10 rushes for 56 yards, one touchdown, and five tackles.
Defensive lineman Walden Mitchell made six tackles and Jack Lawrence, wide receiver and defensive back, made five rushes for 10 yards, converted a pair of two-point conversions, and caught a pass for 38 yards and one touchdown. Lawrence also had four tackles on defense.
Crenshaw Christian Academy will travel to Chambers Academy on Sept. 9.
