Community members throughout Crenshaw County gathered Saturday at Turner Park in Luverne for a co-ed softball tournament, with the proceeds benefiting 10-year-old Brantley native Correy Bozeman.

Bozeman, son of Matthew and Meredith Bozeman, has been fighting a rare, undiagnosed form of cancer since September 2020, and with nearby charities unable to aid the Bozeman family due to funding, friends and loved ones find themselves picking up the ball, bat, or maybe even a glove..

With the help of family friend Brandy Mount, who organized the tournament, the community banded together to help one of its own, and we need more acts of kindness in our small towns.

Sure, rural counties and small towns have their rivalries throughout the year, with most of that energy expended in our local football stadiums on Friday nights at this point in the calendar. But moments like these show the beauty of our communities collaborating for the greater good.

An official report or account of how much money the tournament raised for the Bozeman family has yet to be produced, but we’re hoping plenty of people participated in the tournament or otherwise provided their time in a manner showing solidarity with the Bozemans.

May the Bozemans continue to see these levels of love and support as the holiday season approaches. We wish the Bozeman family, as well as other families who may be struggling with similar challenges.

As for the community, keep doing the best to set a positive example and assist those in times of need.
