The Crenshaw County 4-H program recently announced news of a community garden club.

The community garden club will be a way for people to get experience in gardening that cannot do so at home for reasons such as space or knowledge of gardening. The goal of the community garden club is to give children the opportunity to learn about various aspects of gardening, gain hands-on experience in growing produce, and use or donate the produce to those in need.

Membership to the club will be open to any child between the ages of nine and 18.

The garden club is also interested in recruiting adult and youth volunteers to help get the gardening area set up and ready to use. Gardening knowledge is helpful but not required to volunteer.

Other projects hosted by the Crenshaw 4-H program include Horse Club and 4-H day.

4-H day, which takes place at the Luverne Public Library every third Thursday, offers multiple events to children between the ages of nine and 14. This month, the 4-H day will allow children the opportunity to make a solar oven out of a pizza box.

Horse Club, which meets every second Monday of the month at the Tom Harbin Center, is available to children ages nine to 18.

Members of the club recently returned from competing at a horse show. The 4-H staff would love to have more children join the horse club and experience the confidence boost and knowledge-building that this club can offer.
